Bargaining Update: January 4, 2010

Worcester TJ Maxx Union Bargaining

Committee Tells Management:

We are not afraid!

We won't settle until we have a contract we can be proud of!

After three days of back to back bargaining sessions, negotiations ended for the day on New Year’s Eve when it was clear that management wasn't prepared to bargain agreements on several issues critical to workers and our families, including health insurance and wages.

Progress made so far (Tentative agreements):

·         Company withdrew proposal for “no fault” attendance policy.

·         Company withdrew its proposal for mandatory overtime.

·         Tentative agreement on a grievance procedure that will result in quicker response when the Union files a grievance.

·          Tentative agreement on vacation scheduling that will allow people to have more opportunities to be approved for time off.

   Where we need more progress:

·         Wages.

·         Health Insurance:  TJ Maxx is making record breaking profits, yet they want us to accept lesser medical benefits and pay more money out of pocket.  We want an improvement in the health plan.

·         Pension: We are proposing that TJMaxx increases its contribution for our pensions.

·         Short Term Disability: TJ Maxx now wants us to pay for the short term disability insurance that has always been free with our medical.  We say no.

This is a summary only.  There are many other important issues being negotiated.

How will we win?

By remembering  that in Unity there is       strength!
